If you’ve ever reached out to Sharetribe’s support team with a technical question in the past few years, chances are that you have already had a chat with either Aleksi or Sari, Sharetribe’s Developer Advocates. That’s us! 👋

At Sharetribe, our role is supporting the developers who are building with the Sharetribe Developer Platform. As a part of that role, we

  • answer technical support questions coming in through email or our Console chat widget
  • write product documentation
  • participate in conversations in our Sharetribe Developers Slack channel
  • develop features for our open-source Web Template
  • come up with ways to improve the overall developer experience for folks working with Sharetribe
  • and now write this blog.

We both joined Sharetribe in August 2021 as the first two Developer Advocates in Sharetribe’s history. Since then, we have responded to thousands of support tickets, made hundreds of documentation pull requests, and learned countless details on the Sharetribe marketplace software and the different use cases where it can be used.

Hi, I’m Aleksi!

I’ve worked in technology for over five years, both in consulting and as a freelancer. I’ve always been interested in front-end and web development. I have a master’s degree in technology but with a strong focus on service design and UX. During my university studies, I often worked as a course assistant, and I really enjoyed teaching programming courses, which is quite similar to what we do here at Sharetribe as Developer Advocates!

What I love in my role is that there is a lot of problem-solving. Often, you need to get quite creative in gathering information when troubleshooting a bug or a problem with a marketplace, as you usually don’t have full visibility into the underlying code. In addition to that, I enjoy explaining technical concepts in the form of documentation. It’s rewarding to translate complex technical concepts into articles.

During my free-time, I love learning jazz standards on the piano and surfing the Baltic Sea (when it’s not covered by a thick layer of ice).

Hi, I’m Sari!

My first career was in teaching languages and communication, and I used to run my own business back in the day. I then changed careers completely into software development, and I worked as a full-stack-but-mostly-backend developer for a few years before joining Sharetribe.

I joined Sharetribe both for the specific DA role, and for the larger culture. When I ran my business, I had conducted a few communication training sessions for Sharetribe, so I knew that the company culture was exceptional. When the Developer Advocate role opened up, it seemed to combine everything I had done in my career before that moment – working with people, helping folks learn and understand complex things, and working deeply with different backend and frontend technologies.

There are a lot of aspects to being a Developer Advocate that I really enjoy. What makes my day is when I’ve been going back and forth with someone in support trying to solve a particularly tricky problem, and then they get back with “Now it works!” 🎉 I really like trying to figure out how to get the Sharetribe transaction process engine to expand to new and interesting use cases. It’s also a role where I keep learning new things all the time, because our customers have such diverse use cases and creative ideas on customizations and integrations.

In my free time, I like to read, meditate, listen to podcasts, play board games, and start craft projects (and occasionally also finish them). I also do taekwondo with my kid, and I’d like to spend more time singing and playing the piano.

If you have any questions about developing with Sharetribe, or if you just want to say hi, pop us a message on the Console chat widget – we’re happy to hear from you and help you out!
