As on 25 May 2018 GDPR becomes enforceable, does anyone has any guides or can share their experience to render standalone Sharetribe sites as GDPR compliant?
Or just use a simple one-time cookie banner?

Hi Zenik! Great question.
We are now working one a couple additions (new checkbox in signup page, ability to disable tracking, extra warning when adding admins…) that will help make the product compliant.
We believe, according to our current knowledge, that emails such as “new message”, “new transaction” and daily/weekly newsletter are legitimate parts of the service and don’t require extra consent from users.
On top of that, each marketplace owner should indeed update their terms accordingly and verify that all services they rely on and store their members data are GDPR-compliant. It’s also a good idea to communicate to members to let them know about changes and ask for their consent to receive occasional emails from admins.
Hopefully this will help a bit!
Dear Thomas,
I know sharetribe comes already with a standard terms and conditions and privacy. With respect to GDPR, can you recommend some further detailed terms/conditions and privacy terms or another source where to look for that?
Best regards,
Stefan
Hey Stefan,
hum unfortunately I don’t have much info to share about this. This can be quite specific indeed, but I guess many websites shared insights and “templates” already about this?
Hopefully you’ll find interesting things online to get started!
Hi Thomas,
Any idea when these solutions (e.g. new checkbox in signup page) will be available?
I am surprised to read you believe that daily/weekly newsletter are probably legitimate parts of the service and thus no extra consent is required from users, while occasional emails from admins aren’t. I would expect it’s the other way around (assuming that newsletters have mainly a marketing purpose and are not directly related to the functionality of the marketplace service itself)?
Cheers
Hi there!
Some things have already been merged to master (see https://github.com/sharetribe/sharetribe/pull/3318) and others are in progress (see https://github.com/sharetribe/sharetribe/pull/3327 or https://github.com/sharetribe/sharetribe/pull/3318) and will be merged early next week.
It’s true that the term “newsletter” was confusing. In Sharetribe Go, newsletters are automatic daily/weekly emails sent to members about new listings. They are not newsletter with additional content from admins. In that sense, newsletter are part of the service (and members can choose their frequency or unsubscribe).
However email from admins are unique and not controlled in any way.
Does it clarify things, @Marco?
