In some marketplaces, users may represent organizations rather than themselves personally. These users may prefer to display their organization's name instead of their personal first and last name's initial letter.

Additionally, some users might choose to remain anonymous to other marketplace users, opting to use a nickname or alias. Even though these users must provide their first and last names during signup, they can maintain their privacy in public interactions.

The Display Name feature accommodates both scenarios. Within their profile settings, users have the option to set a display name. If a display name is added, it will be visible to all other users, overriding the visibility of their real first and last name initials. This feature provides flexibility for users in how they wish to be identified on the platform.

Display names are user fields that are enabled when creating a user type. You further specify whether the Display name is part of your sign-up form and whether it is mandatory for users to fill it out when signing up.

For a marketplace user to utilize a display name, their user account must be associated with a user Type that has the display name field enabled.

If you do not enable the Display name feature, the marketplace shows a combination of the user's First name and Last name's initial, such as "John D."

When Display name is enabled, users can set their Display name in their Profile settings tab.

The Display name can also be filled in during signup by the user, if this is enabled.

Display Name is used on various pages within the marketplace, including the listings search page, the individual listing page, and the user's profile page.

In the Console, under the Manage Users page, the display name appears on the user profile card below the profile picture. The first and last names are displayed in the Name field in the Overview section.
