Your Sharetribe marketplace uses cookies to enable a great experience in key user areas like payments or search. Learn what these cookies are and how to ensure your marketplace is compliant with directives from regions like the European Union or California in this article.

What are cookies used for in a Sharetribe marketplace?

Cookies used for end-users (your visitors)

Essential cookies

These cookies don't require consent from visitors.

  • The Sharetribe cookie is only used to session information. The cookie is named st-hosted-token. At present, this cookie is not used to store any personal information. This cookie is valid for 1 month.

  • If you use online payment with Stripe, Stripe adds its own cookie when the payment component loads.

Non-essential cookies

These cookies require consent from visitors. If you want your Sharetribe marketplace to be cookie-compliant, you should disable the following associated features:

  • Google Maps sets some cookies ("NID" and "SID" cookies, in particular), that track personal information. If you don't want to use code and be cookie-compliant, you should use Mapbox as your map provider instead of Google Maps, as Mapbox doesn't use cookies. Mapbox is already used in your Test marketplace and you can choose to configure it yourself when you go Live.

  • Google Analytics uses cookies to track personal information. If you don't want to use code and be cookie-compliant, you should use Plausible instead of Google Analytics, as Plausible doesn't use cookies. Learn more about the Plausible integration here.

You can also customize your marketplace with code to let users consent to non-essential cookies. If you add any more integrations through custom development, you should review whether they set non-essential cookies, as these should also be consented to.

Cookies used for admins in Console

These cookies do not affect visitors as they are used in Console. Sharetribe uses some third-party services there, such as Intercom, which manage their own cookies. You can learn more about their privacy policy on their websites and find the full list of third-party services we rely on here.

How to make your Sharetribe marketplace compliant without custom code

To make your hosted Sharetribe marketplace cookie-compliant, you should use:

  • Mapbox instead of Google Maps

  • Plausible instead of Google Analytics
